Sage is an ancient sacred herb used during sacred ceremonies and smudging rituals. Traditional Native American smudging ceremonies use White Sage, Dakota Sage, and Desert Sage.
Long thought to possess spiritual cleansing properties, science has also discovered that sage actually contains anti-microbial properties as well.
Smudging has been traditionally used to safeguard against negativity that could interfere with sleep. Some research suggests that sage contains compounds that could help ease insomnia. Classic garden sage (Salvia officinalis) is sometimes burned like white sage. It's also been used to improve sleep and soothe anxiety.
