A prayer mala bead is used as a tool to help the mind focus on meditation. It provides a much-needed anchor allowing you to keep an easy count during a mantra, in sets of 108 repetitions (108 beads). Malas create lovely necklaces, and can also be looped multiple times around your wrist. It’s a common belief that when malas are used regularly for meditation and repeating mantras, they absorb the vibrations of the practice. So, the more you wear it, the more positive energy it absorbs and reflects back.

In the Himalayas, animals such as yak or water buffalo are used for service, food, clothing, and ritual items.  Given the limited number of resources and the religious practices of the people in the region, it is important that none of the animal goes to waste.

In Buddhism the use of bone is intended to remind us of the very fact of our impermanence, that death will eventually come to us all, and to embrace lives filled with compassion, service, loving all, and happiness.
